Smashed potatoes "fučka"

The preparation of a simple “fučka” from potatoes was typical for several villages in Horehronie. It is simple in terms of number of ingredients. It starts smelling after whiles spent in grandmother’s kitchen, where wood cracks in the fire. “Fučka” was complemented by some with bacon or home-made butter. Others fell for the sweet taste of “fučka” sprinkled over by sugar.

Ingredients for 4 portions:

  • 700 g peeled potatoes
  • 50 g fine flour
  • 150 g bacon or butter
  • Salt

Preparation:

  • Let potatoes cut in pieces cook in salted water.
  • Do not strain potatoes after cooking them, but smash them in the water and thicken using fine flour.
  • Stir the mash properly and continue cooking and stirring for 3 minutes.
  • Pour the thick matter on a plate. Make a tiny hole in the middle, in which comes fried bacon or butter.
  • Serve with milk or “žinčica” (boiled sheep whey).
